Dental Bonding in La Mesa, CA

Damaged teeth can have a detrimental impact on your appearance. Appearances play an important role, especially when it comes to job interviews and dating. Whether you have chips, cracks, or cavities, dental bonding has the ability to repair your damaged teeth and improve the appearance of your smile.

Here at A Shop for Smiles, Dr. Hagstrom can use dental bonding to repair these issues and many others.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding refers to the process of securing composite dental resins to natural teeth. We use dental bonding to repair chipped or cracked teeth. Using this procedure, we can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile.

Arguably the best aspect of bonding is the fact that it is tooth colored. In fact, Dr. Hagstrom can alter the color of the composite resin to match your teeth perfectly. As you can imagine, this makes dental bonding a sound alternative to amalgam fillings, which contain mercury—a well known toxin.

Additionally, amalgam fillings are easily noticeable and can be considered an eyesore. Composite resin fillings are made to match your tooth color, allowing them to blend with your natural teeth.

Dental Bonding Procedure

While some forms of cosmetic dentistry require a laboratory to craft the restorations, dental bonding can easily be done in our office in one appointment.

The first step in the bonding procedure is to prepare the damaged tooth. When filling cavities, this will require removing the decayed part of the tooth, while cracked teeth will need to be textured in order for the resin to adhere to the tooth.

Once the shade of white has been selected, the resin will be applied, along with a conditioning liquid. The resin will then be molded to fit perfectly and look like a natural tooth. Finally, an ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin.

Dr. Hagstrom will shape the tooth and polish it to match the appearance of the rest of your teeth. Overall, the dental bonding procedure can take between 30-60 minutes to complete.
